The peril of being with a pack of five year olds...

Yesterday was Red's kindergarten field trip to the zoo.  We went with Tom Thumb and two of her friends and their moms in our van.  Needless to say, it was a ZOO!  The prairie dogs were out in force.
The peacocks were putting on a show.
The gorilla was posing like a GQ model.

The kids had a stare down with a meerkat.
After six hours of walking with the animals, we made it home only to host neighborhood happy hour at our house.  A good time was had by all, except the chysalides.
Notice that we now have four chysalides on the floor of the butterfly house instead of one.  Red decided it was a good idea for she and her friends at the party last night to get a closer look by plucking them off the paper on the wall of the house.  To be honest, I was pretty upset.  Red seemed unconcerned about it and her lack of empathy for the little creatures made me sad.  Hopefully, the talk she had with the Cobbler last night sunk in the need to be kind to animals.  Will they live through the trauma and still become butterflies?  They've been in their pupa state since Monday so they're due to emerge sometime between tomorrow and Wednesday.  Only time will tell...

I'm sorry you had to experience such a difficult event yesterday. Nature has suffered worse than a bunch of little kids - but I don't think the true lesson will be the life cycle of a caterpillar. Instead, it will be how Red treats God's creations in the future.

Love to you, my dear friend. We need to have some Mommy time. :)

Oh my goodness! The trip to the zoo.....yea, not my favorite place. Wow for you, braving it with a whole class of 5 yr olds!!

I hope the butterflies emerge, despite their less than stellar relocation.
